European double-girder overhead crane adopts optimized steel structure and precision welding

• Abandoning ordinary Q235B steel and adopting high-strength structural steel: This is a key material revolution in achieving lightweighting. European cranes widely use high-strength fine-grain steel such as S690QL.

  • Advantages: This steel has a much higher yield strength (~690 MPa) than conventional steel (~235 MPa). This means that components made with high-strength steel can be smaller and thinner when subjected to the same load, significantly reducing weight while providing higher stiffness (resistance to deformation) and strength.

• Cost and process: Although the material itself is more expensive and has extremely high requirements for welding technology (special welding materials and processes are required), the overall weight reduction benefits far outweigh the increase in material costs.
